Prior to arriving in Phong Nha, we hadn't realised there was an overnight bus and so had booked a room in a hostel for that night. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it meant we could get a couple of extra hours' sleep when we arrived in Hanoi and some breakfast when we woke up.
We had one warm day in Hanoi, then the cloud and drizzle arrived.

Phong Nha national park is a geologist's heaven and a perfect place to spend my birthday.
The Hải Vân Pass translates to ocean cloud pass and is between Hội An and Huế (just north of Đà Nẵng).

Our next stop on our journey north was Hue. There are various ways to get between the two, including the train and a bus, but by far the most exciting is by scooter over the Hai Van Pass.
Mỹ Sơn (pronounced me son) is a temple complex that we visited on a day trip from Hội An.

Many people told us to go to Hoi An when we were planning this trip so I had high hopes for this city. I'm pleased to say it did not disappoint!
